Art Journal Page – “On the Inside”

Art Journalwhats inside

This page is a little creepy — but also very cool!

The body image was cut from a magazine, but because the gray tones were so uninteresting, I knew I had to do something hot and spicy on the background so the page would really pop.

The background was made with Distress inks.  First, I applied colour directly onto the background using a blending tool, then I rubbed darker Distress ink colours through a stencil to create the square patterns.  Next, I collaged the words and image onto the background.  (Some of the words were cut from magazines, and some were printed from my computer).  I doodled with a black pen and rubberstamped some black shapes and patterns onto the page using black Archival ink, and then added the white circles using acrylic paint applied through punchinella (sequin waste).  To tie it all together, I scribbled a black line around the edge of the page and coloured outside the line using a red Sharpie.

This page proves the fact that you can art journal ANYTHING that catches your eye!
