I found this image in a magazine, and thought it was interesting. It seemed to work perfectly on this page with shading and handwritten journaling going around the edge of the image.
The background of this page was made with Dylusions spray ink leftover on a stencil (I just couldn’t bear to waste it!) I covered it with a little bit of white gesso to tone down the brightness a bit, and then applied a strip of decorative washi tape over both sides of the page. I printed the quote from my computer and drew attention to it with more washi tape, doodling, and a dimensional butterfly sticker. I also darkened the edges of the page with orange Distress ink and a blending tool.
For me, the key to adding collage elements to my journal pages is to incorporate them into the page so they don’t look “stuck on”. When they’re incorporated into the page with words, shading, or other hand-drawn elements, they look PART of the page. It makes all the difference!
